Something odd about how Watchtower portrays prayer versus how JWs actually pray.
by Island Man inwatchtower literature often depicts individuals praying with their hands clasped together or kneeling on the ground in their bedroom.. but i don't recall ever seeing a jw praying like that.
i have never seen a jw praying in a kneeling position or with hands clasped together.
have you?.

Maybe the editors realize that the Witnesses do not take any special prayer position so they portray them with traditional - in Christendom - prayer positions so the reader know there is a prayer being said. -

The 5:40 minute mark is where Jehovah's dear name is used in vain.

I've heard audios of Michele Bachman (Yes that Michele) use the name Jehovah in a rapturous prayer she was giving.
I've seen two movies where the main actor uses the name Jehovah.
One of them, The Apostle, was produced and starred by Robert Duvall who played the part of charismatic Pentecostal preacher. He was giving a shouted prayer in which he repeatedly mentioned "Jehovah!"
The other was a movie, April Morning, about the American Revolution in which the actor, Tommy Lee Jones, sings a hymn to Jehovah.
On one occasion I was walking through a neighborhood on a job assignment and I ran into a group of charismatic worshippers in a warehouse setting standing with arms outstretched mentioning the name Jehovah over and over again.
And if you don't mind the name pronounced Yahweh:

Let’s Speculate!!!
by John Aquila inyou know the organization is slowly going down.
not as fast as we would wish, but nevertheless it is crumbling.
five (5) year old child baptisms, smaller magazines, child sexual abuse exposed, smaller annual growth, no one wants to reach out, young ones leaving.

What will the Watchtower look like in 30 years?
My predictions are more like 15 years ahead, further predictions are pure fantasy since society in general might change with unknown effects on the JWs.
Yes, I know JWs are isolated from the world in general but I predict very bad times for the world and that might actually help the Witnesses in increasing their numbers. Fundamentalist religions love misery.
Will there still be a Governing Body?
Always. The lust for power will always be there. And what would the alternative be, a non-hierarchical structure?
Will they finally drop 1914?
No, but as someone previously said here they will take the chronological voodoo out of it. They'll probably "forget" the "generation" issue. In any case, Adventists are doing well regardless of how irrelevant their date 1844 is for their general faith.
Will the blood doctrine finally be dropped?
It will probably be a conscience matter, more so than today. Also, by 2030 viable blood substitutes might be in use.
Will disfellowshipping be dropped?
Maybe underemphasized but I'm sure it will still be there for extreme cases.
Will there still be Circuit Overseers, Elders, Pioneers?
Their hierarchy will stay in tact although it may undergo some changes (whatever happened to District Overseers?). They are an authoritarian religion and I believe they will always have a top to bottom command structure.
Will there still be Judicial Committees?
That's the same as asking the question on disfellowshipping being dropped. If disfellowshippings are maintained to any degree you will need a judicial committee.
Will they still have conventions 3 times a year?
I'm sure they'll still have conventions though they may be weekend or single day conventions. Pardon the ignorant question but how long are they now?
How many meetings will they have a week?
Maybe two days like now though the weeknight meeting attendance might be reduce in hours and somewhat "optional".
Will they still go door to door preaching?
That is up in the air. They all hate field service and the cart witnessing is a more preferable option so that might take over a lot of their field service.
With the carts they don't get into people's private space. They don't need to be eloquent. At most they simply hand out leaflets.
Will they drop the name; “Watchtower Bible and Tract Society?”
Why should they? They have their bible and they will still have tracts to hand out.
How many members will they have worldwide?
If I'm not mistaken aren't they somewhat increasing in non Western nations? If global situations go from bad to worse there will always be people needing something to have faith in.
Also, we can't assume the Internet will affect them outside of English speaking nations. I'm not sure but I don't believe there are many ex-JW websites of our caliber in most of the languages that many JWs speak.

freemindfade:
"Do you believe the the rampage shooting we have seen over the last two decades amount to more deaths than all other non rampage shootings in America?"
There have probably been a few hundred deaths from rampage shootings throughout the past several decades. While I don't have any figures to back it up I believe that deaths from non-rampage shootings are much more numerous. There are thousands of firearms related deaths in the US every year. I think that rampage shooting number into the 100+ range.

Please tell us what it was that he told you so we could tailor our advice to his personality and standing in the JWs. It sounds like he doesn't want to go to the meetings or field service (going door to door).
Tell him to take a vacation from meeting attendance and consider fading slowly.
Tell him not to share his doubts, if he has any, to his parents until he becomes independent.
Don't even consider having a 'study' in order to impress his parents.
By the way, welcome to the forum.

Fisherman:
"I think that like never before, there are a lot of angry people in the US for a lot of different reasons...Maybe everybody is going crazy, but I see a lot of angry people wanting to get back."
I refer to it as Republican mass psychosis and it is a fire that the American right wing media has been stoking for decades. They are both psychotic and psychopathic in their lust for power.
An example is the murder of two policemen that took place in Nevada. Jerad and Amanda Miller had previously gone to the Cliven Bundy ranch to join in the standoff with law officials. Bundy was the rancher that wanted a free lunch for his cows and refused to pay grazing fees to the Bureau of Land Management.
Some time after that stand off the Millers went to a pizzeria they killed two policemen, draped their bodies with a Gadsden flag (The yellow American revolutionary flag with a rattlesnake and the words "Don't Tread on Me"), pinned a swastika on them and a note that read "The revolution has begun."
That is the deep, murderous hatred that Fox News and assorted conservative psychopath media have been inspiring for years and its effects won't be limited to random individual murders.
